COURSE CONTENT
0. Intro Lesson
Your starting point where you will get to know:
-
The material, its origin and how to handle it.
-
How to choose and store your clay and tools.
-
How to build an easy, safe and efficient working station in your home, office, or even at a lake bbq gathering.
-
How to store your creations and leftover clay safely.
1. Pinch Pot & Decoration
The first touch with clay is with Pinch Pot technique where we use only fingertips to make an objects.
Through this technique you will get to experience the character of clay and the way to work together with it, building elegant and diverse objects of your choice.
Within this class we will also teach you how to attach external elements and decorate your object.
2. Slab Building
Slabs are priority rolled and flattened pieces of clay. If you wisely place slabs together one on another you are able to slowly build your object, similar to laying down brickwork of your house.
For this lesson, we will use an example of a coffee mug that you will design based on your personal preference. Furthermore, we will show you how to apply this technique to plates and bowls.
3. Edgy Geometric Shapes
Within this class, we will teach you to make the edgy geometric designs and formulate corners with distinguishing cut. This will help unleash a whole world of possible creation and guide you to explore designs allowing you to go wild in shapes from triangles to pentagons.
Geometric shapes usually inspire us for larger more abstract creations. Within this class, we will also guide you on how to make taller objects such as vases or various sculptures.
4. Slab Building into Forms
Within this class, we bring you back to home base, literally to your kitchen by teaching you slab building into form, the most efficient way of creating a tableware set.
The difference between slab building techniques and using it to create forms is in the latter - the form. A form or a mold can be used in order to re-trace or re-create specific objects, for example, take your grandma’s favorite plate and fill it up with clay to remake it.
5. Coil trailing
To finish with the tribal - coil trailing is an archaic technique which interestingly in today’s world is used in most contemporary designs.
Coils are rolled clay slabs, without flattening them. This rounded shape of clay gives objects remarkable stability.
Within this lesson, you will use this technique to stretch your creative muscle to the furthest. The creation will be yours to imagine and choose, this is making sculptures and abstract designs using clay.
